About the Author

 Don Nori Sr is a driven man. The same passion that arrested him over forty years ago is still the primary, overshadowing power in His life. Along with Cathy, his wife of 40 years, they pursue life enthusiastically in the beautiful Cumberland Vally of central Pennsylvania. They spend much of their time blissfully spoiling their grandchildren and enjoying their sons and their wives. Don will probably write as long as God gives him breath.

Dr. Clyde Rivers is the Honorary Ambassador at Large for the Republic of Burundi, Africa. He is the founder and CEO of iChange Nations and works as a world peace ambassador for Golden Rule International. He is the Senior Pastor of Miracle Faith Church in Victorville, California, where he lives with his wife of 21 years, Maryalice.

In the 1960’s Christians across America were singing the song “In Times like These You Need the Savior” written by Ruth Caye Jones. Now, sixty years later in their book “The Forgotten Mountain – The Place of Peace in a Time of Confusion” Don Nori Sr. and Ambassador Clyde Rivers are offering hope to another generation on a quest for peace in a time of confusion.

By the end of chapter one I knew I was on the edge of a threshold, transcending man’s earthly contemporized perception, moving into the pronunciation of the wisdom of the ancients, those Old Testament prophets, who received their “wisdom from above,” who spoke of current events as far back as ancient Egypt, and of things to come in the last times. I knew I was moving into the realm of new vistas of prophetic insight and understanding into the truth of Scriptures often overlooked, that change the heart.

Much of the inspiration for the material, within the chapters, of this book come from the writings in the “Classic Wisdom on the Kingdom” by Dr. Myles Monroe,” included in the closing pages of this book. Another important feature is the “Glossary of Terms That Change the Conversation.”

Dr. Nori and Ambassador Rivers write of the role of ambassadors. kings, and priests, and of inner and outer governance, of changing conversation. They bring a message of hope, divine love, inner fulfillment, personal destiny, and a yielded heart.

About the Author
Michel Gagne was born in Quebec, Canada. He studied animation at Sheridan College School of Visual Arts in Ontario, Canada and in 1985, began a highly successful artistic career.

Renowned for his unique vision, Michel has lent his talent to several animation companies, such as Don Bluth Studios, Warner Bros., Disney, Pixar, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, etc. His creative work can be seen in over twenty feature films including: The Iron Giant, Osmosis Jones, and Ratatouille. His short films, Prelude to Eden and Insanely Twisted Shadow Puppets, are favorites among animation students and teachers, and have played in festivals throughout the world. He was honored by the International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, with four Annie Award nominations. He continues to create animation, special effects and conceptual designs for companies all over the world.

Michel is also very active in the publishing world having written and illustrated a dozen books, as well as two ongoing comic series: ZED and The Saga of Rex. His work has been published by DC Comics, Image Comics, Random House as well as Michel's own imprint, GAGNE International Press.

Among his other creative endeavors, Michel has experimented in a variety of projects in various media including video games, art shows (paintings, sculptures and mixed-media), trading card games, etc.

As always, a practical guide, though I still think that a new issue every year is over the top. Would be nice to see this as a loose-leaf that can be updated with new additions and changes instead of entire volumes that are basically useless after a few years. Also: Oxford comma, PLEASE AP. It will make writing SO much more accurate.

Helpful as always. Book is getting much thicker nowadays. Would like to see a CD included so we can search on our computer. I know you're trying to send people to your website, but I think we'd pay a little extra to have a cd that was searchable along with the book.

Solid, perhaps not her best

I really like P.D. James, so I think my review could be a bit biased. I have read four of her books and this is my second favorite so far. I thought the book had a couple of interesting twists, but it is really the feeling that I get when I read these books that I like. The descriptions are enough to put me in the place, but not get in the way of my vision of where we are. I also enjoy the characters, and don't feel they are over delveloped while their dialog seems truthful.

Leadership Challenges are not Linear

The thesis of the book is that leading tends not to be linear; it tends to be exponential. The more you pull the rubber band the greater resistance. (I found the analogy particularly interesting since I have recently added using Therabands to my workout schedule. They are very lightweight, portable and can be used almost anywhere. I probably wouldn't need weights in my office if I had learned to use bands when I first starting working out.)

One of the quotes from the book that I liked was, "Great leaders know the value of doing the right things and that includes valuing the contribution of all of the players". I think one area where I have not done as well is telling people I appreciate their contribution. Fortunately I am a life-long learner so I can always change. For me it might even tie in with my own celebration. I tend not to celebrate my own wins as much as I could.

Another quote was, "Much of the frustration that leaders face comes from trying to solve what needs to be managed and trying to manage what needs to be solved. Being able to distinguish which areas need clarity and which areas will be ongoing tensions is a necessary skill." That paragraph was a real truism for me. So many of the things that we are involved in are not solved, they are simply somewhere along a continuum.

I found the book to be interesting, challenging, and thought provoking and would recommend it as a good read.

Only caveat, because Nancy has worked extensively with the church many of her examples have religious overtones that might put some people off.

For All Leaders, Not Just Christians

This book is amazing. I teach leadership and I have read many, many books on leadership. With the POSSIBLE exception of Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Laws, I would say that this is the best book I have read on the subject. I found myself drawn into every page of the book, often saying "Wow, that is SO true."

Perhaps I am a bit more eclectic than some others who have posted reviews but I don't see how anyone can minimize the brilliance of this book because some of the lessons learned and stories told occurred in Christian ministry. I am a business professor who teaches leadership in the area of sales management. If I read a great insight on leadership from John Wooden, I don't say, "Well that insight is for the athletic world." If I read insights from Patton or Eisenhower, I don't say, "Well, I guess that was targeted for the military market." If I find insights from Gandhi or Churchill, I don't think, "That doesn't apply to business because they are clearly talking about political leadership." How small does your world have to be if you cannot learn lessons from great leaders regardless of their field? I do like the fact that so much of Ortberg's experience is in business but I also like a lot of the lessons I have learned from her leadership at Willow Creek and other Christian ministries.

She was talking about a Christian ministry when she did an outstanding job discussing the importance of passion. I found that discussion fascinating and I thought of twenty ways it related to sales management. But she also drew from a wealth of business leadership experience to really drive home some points. For example, I think I will always remember the advertising agency that regained its sense of purpose and vision by putting away all of their awards (things they had accomplished in the past) and replacing them with representations of their goals (things they want to accomplish in the future). Then, at another place in the book, she hit me right between the eyes when she said that "Eleven time out of ten, the answer to your most burning leadership issue is to have the conversation." I thought of all the times I have not been the leader I needed to be because I wasn't willing to sit down with someone and have a two-way conversation about some issue or concern. Funny thing is I don't know if the story where this insight came from was in a Christian or a business organization. She never said. She didn't need to because it doesn't matter. Whether you are running a church, a business, a political campaign, a sports team, a hospital, a university, or any other type of organization, if you are too weak to sit down and "have the conversation" with someone you are leading, you are not fit to be a leader.

So I guess if you get the hibbie jibbies at the mere mention of somebody's faith, then indeed, steer clear of this book. After all, it is published by Tyndale Publishing (that should give you a hint that God might be mentioned). On the other hand if you want and absolutely outstanding book of brilliant insights from someone who has been a leader is a wide variety of contexts, then this book is a must read for you.

I loved this book!

I loved this book! Nancy Ortberg's new book tells truths about leadership that we don't always hear. Truths that are both encouraging and challenging. Such as:
"the core of leadership is hope" - ways to create that culture;
"stop being surprised leadership is hard" - expect it;
"the leader ought to be the most transformed person in the organization";
"great teams need spirited, unfiltered debate" - handling and even encouraging conflict; and
"leaders bear the burden so that hope has free reign".

After reading this book, I want to be a better leader, and I have stories and insights that resonate to help me on that path. Nancy Ortberg's voice is unique - this is not your typical leadership book - and her "non-linear style" so appealing. I was both encouraged by the stories she shared about her own missteps, and challenged by her high view of leadership. After reading Unleashing the Power of Rubber Bands, I want to provide a culture of hope for those I lead.

About the Author
A writer since high school, Terry Brooks published his first novel, The Sword of Shannara, in 1977. It became the first work of fiction ever to appear on the New York Times Trade Paperback Bestseller List, where it remained for more than five months. He has published fourteen consecutive bestselling novels since.The author was a practicing attorney for many years but now writes full-time. He lives with his wife, Judine, in the Pacific North-West Hawaii.

The second best novelization I've ever read

Only "Trials and Tribbleations" has put me into the story in a better style. Second best in a bunch of books that tend to be overblown and often lose me in yards of useless exposition.
Terry Brooks does a wonderful job describing the characters and their situations. He creeps into the heads of the characters and helps bring them to life further in the way only an author can. Qui-Gon Jinn is especially vibrant.
There are some inconsistancies. The end battles and swordfighting in the book is somewhat different, I think, from the movie's version; it includes many lines of dialogue cut from the movie (not that I'm complaining); Jar Jar seems more competent; and Brooks seems to be very vague on Queen Amidala's clothing. None of these significantly detract from enjoyment of this novel. Read it if you've seen the movie! You will not be disappointed.

Filling in the gaps

Star Wars fans the world over have been waiting sixteen years for the newest installation of the greatest saga of all time. In May, Americans got their first look at the newest movie and, for the most part, have been extremely happy. Some, however, were disappointed with the appearance of the novelization before the movie, in many cases letting loose secrects they did not want to know. Many were surprised, however, when, upon seeing the film, many of the story elements present in the novel were not in the movie. This is where the strength of "The Phantom Menace" novelization lies. Here, we are presented with an extended vision of the plot, one which captures the vison and excitement of the film, yet manages to add more than would be possible on the screen. We get an extended history of the Sith, given to us by Darth Sidious himself, as well as some more background about Anakin. In addition to the background, Brooks forshadows the next episode with Anakin's dreams about the future. He does it in his usual artful and elegant prose, reminding one of his "Shannara" books. All in all, this book is a very entertaining and exciting addition to an already great movie.

Good replay of film

How you rate this book depends on what you consider its purpose. If you are looking for new revelations and new story lines, as compared to the movie, you will be somewhat disappointed. But as a simple re-write of the movie, together with some additional insight into the characters' thoughts and motives, this is a pretty good book.
I have to confess I was looking for more from the book. Brooks does a good job of explaining each scene, and even adds in a couple scenes that did not appear in the movie. So while his writing is unspectacular, he does do a very good job of concisely--if unexcitingly--describing each scene, piece by piece.
I also came away from the book with a greater sense of cohesion to the story. The movie, which I enjoyed immensely, left me slightly confused as to why the various characters did such and such, and what they hoped to accomplish in each scene.
Brooks also did a good job of making some sense of the movie's opening: why Naboo was central to the Trade Federation's attention, and why a small out-lying planet would matter much in the grand scheme of the Empire.
Overall a good book. I found the last 50 pages or so quite compelling, not wanting to put it down. Considering its purpose, this is a good book.

Would rather have hard copy

Available on Kindle only, it is too difficult to play duets with my son, with both us reading our ipad screens. Some things are just not right for electronic media, and I'd say sheet music is one of those things.
